Gold Calculator: Calculate Gold Value by Weight and Purity
Gold has been a store of value for thousands of years and remains one of the most popular investment and jewelry assets worldwide. Our Gold Calculator helps you determine the exact value of your gold based on its weight, karat purity, and the current spot price. Whether you are selling jewelry, buying investment gold, or simply curious about the value of your gold holdings, this tool provides instant and accurate valuations.
Understanding Gold Purity (Karats)
Gold purity is measured in karats, with 24 karat being pure gold (99.9% pure). Common karat values include: 24K (99.9% pure), 22K (91.7%), 18K (75%), 14K (58.3%), and 10K (41.7%). Higher karat gold contains more actual gold content and is therefore more valuable by weight. However, lower karat gold is more durable because it contains harder metals like copper and silver, making it more suitable for everyday jewelry.
Gold Pricing: Troy Ounces vs. Grams
Gold is traded internationally in troy ounces. One troy ounce equals 31.1035 grams, which is slightly heavier than a standard avoirdupois ounce (28.35 grams). When you see the gold spot price quoted at $2,350 per ounce, this refers to troy ounces. To find the price per gram, divide the spot price by 31.1035. At $2,350/oz, gold costs approximately $75.56 per gram for pure 24K gold.
Gold as an Investment
Gold serves as a hedge against inflation, currency devaluation, and economic uncertainty. Investors can hold physical gold (coins, bars), gold ETFs, mining stocks, or gold futures contracts. The price of gold tends to rise during periods of geopolitical instability and when interest rates are low.
